The Elna 9600 "Haute Couture"
What brand and model do you have?
I have the Elna 9600 "Haute Couture".
How long have you had it?
I have used it for 2.5 years..about "having" it:) Story for later:)
How much does that machine cost (approximately)?
Retail price is around 7,000.
What types of things do you sew (i.e. quilting, clothing, handbags, home dec projects, etc.)?
I sew quilts, clothing, handbags, totes, do some custom work, doll clothing..basically a little bit of everything...
How much do you sew? How much wear and tear does the machine get?
I sew almost 24-7..tho I use this machine basically for embroidery..I have done some piecing and FMQ on it and it sews like a dream...I do custom embroidery so the machine gets used almost every day..Most of what I embroider is heavy canvas type fabrics..so I say that the Haute Couture gets a decent amount of wear and tear...
Do you like/love/hate your machine? Are you ambivalent? Passionate? Does she have a name?
Oh...I LOVE my machine..It stitches beautifully..
What features does your machine have that work well for you?
I love that it doesn't have a separate embroidery unit, the large moveable touch screen is a big plus, the editing system in the machine is wonderful, The thread cutter is great..I also love the AQ hoop, the lighting, and the fact that I am able to do quilting on it...ummm, if I ever get time to do that:)
Is there anything that drives you nuts about your machine?
The threader doesn't come down correctly sometimes so I have to give it a lil bump..other then that...Nothing...
Would you recommend the machine to others? Why?
YES!!!! I think it is a great embroidery machine...It is easier to use then some of the lower end machines we have serviced in the shop..and it has a lot of options..and just so you don't disregard all the sewing quilting features!!! It sews great..the quilting option is awesome..I would definitely use those options but...I sew a lot of canvas and I really want to spare my "good" machine from all that..Eventually I will probably be using it for more sewing but for right now I am using the "workhorse":)
What factors do you think are important to consider when looking for a new machine?
For beginner sewers..I would definitely recommend looking for a good solid machine with nice lighting..One thing I would consider is spending at least 400.00 if you know that you will be doing lots of sewing..You will not regret that..also go to a local shop..Most of the time you will get 1-5 years of free in house service, you will have a good service tech (I hope:), and most shop owners and employees love to sit and chat about sewing, machines, ideas etc...You will get to pick their brain as well as in most cases you will probably get at least one free class. They will be only a phone call away and since you bought a machine from them you have every right to call them up and ask them a question if say..you need to put in a zipper and you aren't sure how to use your zipper foot..Yes, this is coming from a Sew & Vac shop owners daughter..:) For the experienced seamstress an automatic thread cutter and knee lift are wonderful...
Do you have a dream machine?
Yes!! Elna just came out with the eXpressive 900...Its a great machine with lots of nice features...
Bonus: Do you have a great story to share about your machine (i.e., Found it under the Christmas tree? Dropped it on the kitchen floor? Sewed your fingernail to your zipper?, Got it from your Great Grandma?, etc.!)? We want to hear it!
Well...I just had my 21st birthday last month so we got together with my cousins, friends, family, grandparents that evening..After supper the told me to come into the living room...there was a HUGE box there filled with balloons...in the balloons was everything from money, candy, a fake mouse, a live spider, notes...in one of the balloons was a note from my parents with a picture of the Haute Couture on it saying that the machine in the showroom is mine:) I was shocked!!! Even though I had been using it the last couple years...It wasn't MINE:)
Hope this helps you all..if you have any ?s at all feel free to contact me...
